FENDER TWIN REVERB...
MAJOR SURGERY!
BOARD AGITATING THE FAULT, EVERY JOINT WAS RESOLDERED ON THE EYELET BOARD, THE PRE-AMP VALVE BASES & PINS WERE CLEANED - SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT, BOTH VOLUME CONTROLS WERE NOISY - THE CAUSE BEING D.C ON THE WIPERS, THE 250PF TREBLE CAPACITORS (POOR QUALITY CERAMIC DISCS) WERE FAULTY, SILVER MICA REPLACEMENTS CURED THE SCRATCHY POTS, THE CAUSE OF THE INTERMITTENT NOISE/HUM E.T.C WAS THE FIBER BOARD HAD BECOME CONDUCTIVE, TAKING OUT THE FIBER BOARD CLEANING THE OLD WAX OFF, SCRAPING, SEALING THE BOARD WITH PCB LAQUER, & MOUNTING THE BOARD OFF THE BACKING BOARD WITH SPACERS PROVIDING A COMPLETE CURE.
AFTER REFITTED THE CHASSIS INTO THE CAB I THEN HAD NO REVERB! THE REVERB TANK WAS SOLID WITH RUST & GREEN MOULD, A NEW TANK COMPLETED THE JOB. THE AMP NOW SOUNDS EXCELLENT,
THIS EARLY 80s RIVERA TWIN REVERB HAD MAJOR PROBLEMS, HAVING BEEN STORED IN DAMP CONDITIONS, THE INITIAL FAULT SEEMED STRAIGHTFORWARD ENOUGH - BLOWING THE MAINS FUSE, THE CAUSE BEING 1 OF THE 6L6GCs ARCING, AFTER FITTING A MATCHED QUAD THE FUN & GAMES STARTED!
THE AMP WAS PRODUCING LOW LEVEL POPPING, FRIED EGGS, & HUMMING NOISES, FLEXING THE
RUSTED & FULL OF GREEN MOULD!
THE NACKERED REVERB TANK!
NOTE THE SPACING OF THE FIBER EYELET BOARD FROM THE BACKING BOARD
